The Perfect Entertaining Garden
This recently completed landscaping project by ALS Landscaping in Gainsborough showcases how thoughtful garden design can create a series of connected outdoor living spaces that are both practical and visually striking.
Working closely with the homeowners, our team transformed the garden into a contemporary retreat featuring premium paving, bespoke structures, carefully planned planting and luxury outdoor features designed for year-round enjoyment.
Garden Design Overview
Our brief for this project was to create a high-end landscape that offered plenty of space for entertaining and relaxing, making the most of the available space. The homeowners in Gainsborough wanted a contemporary garden design and landscape features made with premium materials for a lasting transformation.
They also expressed an interest in practical outdoor living features to support their entertaining and relaxing outdoors, as well as some planting and soft landscaping features that could mature over time.
To accommodate these desires, we created a garden design with distinct zones for multiple purposes, while ensuring a cohesive appearance and seamless flow between them through materials and placement.
Bespoke Pergola & Patio For Outdoor Living
One of the standout features of this garden design project is the premium Deponti louvred pergola with frameless glass sides. Positioned as the main entertaining area in the garden, this structure offers full flexibility across the seasons, allowing the homeowners to enjoy their outdoor space year-round.
The fully retractable roof allows the homeowners to enjoy full sunshine or instant shade at the touch of a button, whilst the sliding glass panels can be opened completely on warm days or closed to create a sheltered outdoor room when the weather changes.
The surrounding porcelain paving was completed using Brett Castor Beige porcelain, with Arbor Charcoal limestone setts to provide attractive borders and definition throughout the garden.
The garden also includes several dedicated seating areas, giving the homeowners a choice of spaces to enjoy throughout the day, with provision made for a future outdoor kitchen and barbecue area.
Contemporary Steel Water Feature
We installed a striking Corten steel infinity water feature as a focal point within the garden. This not only centres the garden design and grabs interest when outdoors, as the water feature can also be seen from within the home and enjoyed at all times.
As the water gently flows over the edges, it provides a relaxing sound that can be enjoyed from both the garden and the kitchen, creating the calming ambience our client desired.
Corten steel was chosen not only for its durability but also for its colour. Over time, the Corten steel naturally develops its distinctive rich orange patina, which adds further character and warmth to the contemporary garden design.
Structural Landscaping & Planting
Alongside the hard landscaping, we developed a comprehensive planting scheme to soften the contemporary materials and introduce year-round interest into this garden design.
Working closely with our horticultural specialist, we selected a mixture of trees, shrubs and ornamental planting that complements the modern design whilst thriving in the site’s conditions. As the planting matures, it will continue to enhance the garden and create greater privacy around the outdoor living spaces.
Traditionally constructed oak arches, made using timber joints without visible mechanical fixings, have been installed to create an elegant transition between different areas of the garden.
Thoughtful Finishing Touches
Attention to detail was a key part of this project and is what has made the finished landscape so high-end. Details such as the low-level downward-facing garden lighting throughout the garden create atmosphere during the evening without causing excessive light pollution, maintaining the functional yet luxurious appearance of the garden design.
Additional features such as the decorative Venetian screening, discreet outdoor power points and carefully positioned lighting that highlight the natural beauty of the oak structures and allow the planting and architectural elements to remain the focal points are all excellent examples of the meticulous care the ALS Landscaping team implemented throughout this project.
