Courtyard Garden Transformation Overview
For this project, our client had requested a complete transformation of their courtyard garden. The existing landscape was uninspiring and fitted out almost completely in block paving.
Although compact, the space had huge potential thanks to its wraparound layout and multiple access points from the house.
The aim was to create a modern outdoor living space that felt open, inviting and usable throughout the seasons whilst incorporating several unique design features that held personal significance to the client.
Following an initial consultation with the client, we developed several bespoke CAD garden designs so she could visualise different concepts for her garden transformation and confidently select the final layout.
Unique Garden Design Tailored To Client
Every garden we create is unique, but this project was particularly memorable. The homeowner wanted to incorporate a retired helicopter rotor blade into the design as a tribute to her years of service in the Armed Forces.
During the design process, we discovered an unexpected connection through our own military backgrounds, making this project especially rewarding to deliver. By understanding the client’s vision and personal story, we were able to create a garden that is both highly functional and deeply meaningful.
We developed a layout that transformed the previously featureless space into a series of attractive outdoor living areas. The completed garden makes full use of the property’s wraparound courtyard and creates a seamless connection with the home through its multiple doors and bi-fold openings.

Premium Landscaping Features
The garden combines a number of premium landscaping features that work together to create a contemporary finish.
A fully retractable louvred pergola provides a flexible seating area that can be enjoyed in sunshine or shade throughout the seasons, while elegant Corten steel planters and a matching water feature introduce warmth, texture and a striking architectural focal point.
As the Corten steel naturally weathers, it develops its distinctive rust-coloured finish, adding even more character to the design.
Planting For Year-Round Interest
To soften the contemporary materials, we created a bespoke planting scheme designed to provide colour and interest throughout every season.
Working alongside our horticultural specialist, carefully selected planting was introduced throughout the courtyard to ensure the garden continues to evolve as plants mature and seasonal displays change.
The result is a garden that remains attractive all year round while bringing life and softness into the modern design.
Project Outcome
This garden transformation is a great example of how intelligent garden design can maximise every inch of available space. What was once a plain, hard-landscaped courtyard has become a welcoming outdoor retreat that offers somewhere to relax, entertain guests or simply enjoy a quiet moment outdoors.
